When the Basic setting Enable $j jogging is switch off and the move panel was last set to jog the machine the machine is forever in jog mode. You can disable by re-enabling $j jogging, closing that window then enter the Move panel, continuous jog off, then returning to the machine’s basic setting to disable $j jogging mode.
IMO when toggling off the basic setting Enable $j jogging the software should default the Move setting to continuous off too.
I was having issues with Continuous Jog due to a different bug that I recently resolved by installing the Release Candidate v2.0.03. Now with this version installed, I can use this feature. So yes the normal operation works by using the toggle button on the move panel.
So it is unlikely that a user would commonly disable the Jog option in settings but if they happen to while continuous jog was enabled they would have no way to switch back without knowing to enable the option to disable the feature before re-disabling the option. Even writing that out doesn’t make sense.
I contribute to a few different open source software projects so I tend to find the edge cases a lot. This is not a stop-the-presses bug but IMO if the option is disabled in the settings then the feature should be forced to revert back to the default functionality.
I will go one further… Why have two switches? Just let one do all the work?
I suspect Enable and On/Off was a requirement of some controllers, and may still be. We have to be careful calling an inconvenience a bug.
What you have is a Feature Request. This link will get you there.
These seem to always be welcomed by Lightburn. Whether or not a bug, they want the user experience to be the best it can be (wow, did that sound like a commercial!).
Having the ability to flip between jog and incremental is nice, but being able to fully disable continuous if a machine does not accommodate this well is also good. I like the fact that I can customize.
If I were to ask for a feature, it would be if jog mode is enabled in the settings, then a set of new buttons should be displayed on the move panel with separate Jog speeds from the incremental speed. This way I could quickly jog to the area, then using the incremental button and shift incrementally fine adjust the start position EDIT: I submitted a feature-request HERE:when-j-jogging-is-enabled-add-jog-buttons-to-move-panel
I find myself flipping between these a lot now that LB got the continuous functionality working in CNC-based machines. But I’m early with my usage of the new-to-me machine, so this may become less later when I use the system more.
