A hole in a paper tells us nothing.
The darkest spot should be dark brown then get lighter.
You need to make the target stable so we can see how the beam power is distributed.

Show him the patterns you are looking to see and maybe he’ll get that you’re not looking for a hole pattern but a beam shape pattern so just a scorch on paper is better.
