I’ve been used to the functionality of almost every software in the market, where you can have 2 or more files open at the same time. I have not been able to do so in Lightburn, since opening one automatically closes the current file.
I found I can open various sesions of the software and work in several designs at the same time. The problem I am having is that when I want to send the cut file from session #2 to the laser, the laser status is “disconnected” as it is still grabbed by the first lightburn session. If I want to “claim” my laser un session 2, I have to close session #1 and select another laser, then salect the laser I was using.
Is there a way to tell lightburn to claim the laser on session “x”?
LightBurn maintains an active connection to the laser at all times. If you close the first open version of LightBurn, then right-click the ‘Devices’ button on the 2nd instance, it will connect to the laser.
If you want to leave multiple copies open, you’d need to create a 2nd device profile that connects in a manner that won’t work (like using a network connection with an invalid address). In the 1st instance, choose that invalid device, then in the 2nd instance, choose the device with the USB connection, and it will connect - the trick is that you have to disconnect the first one.
You can have many instances of LightBurn open at one time, but you can only talk to the laser with one of them.
