I am wanting to cut out a L shaped box and need to design it. All the boxes I have done before I have had templates from Laser Box Maker but I cant seem to adapt successfully any of the standard designs they have. I just need some guidance where to start so I can learn this for future reference.
Start by drawing your box bottom. You have to decide if the bottom will be interior dimension (tabs added to outside) or exterior dimension (tabs removed from dimensions). Then make the sides to align with each section of the box. Then you can copy the base for a top if needed / desired.
I don’t have time today, but if you post a drawing of what you’re attempting to do, I can make a video walking you through it tomorrow or Friday.
I don’t have any videos on box making, but here is a video I did making a lantern. Many of the techniques will apply to what you are attempting.
So this is what I managed to do, took me a good couple of hours. I then cut it with the Laser and despite setting the Kerf Offset to 0.18 it was impossible to fit the tabs into the grooves.
When I lined them up they do not appear to be lining up correctly.
Not sure how you got here, but your slots and tabs don’t align on screen, so they certainly won’t align when cut. I aligned your long side to the first slot at the top and this is what the bottom looks like. See how the discrepancy increases as you go down?
I didn’t have time to make a how to, but this should get you what you need so you can move on with your project. The hardest part to figure out is the inside corner. I think it’s correct, but until it’s cut??? L Box Edit.lbrn2 (52.7 KB)
