Large steps, small steps and microstep

Hi there!
In the hotkey list it says that the combination shift + numpad moves lasers with large steps and with ctrl + numpad small steps. However, I noticed that with the alt + numpad combo (not present in the hotkeys list ) you can move the laser with microsteps.

Standard movement : 40mm
Ctrl+numpad : 8mm (20%) - small step
Alt+numpad : 0.8mm (2%) - micro step

This combo is very convenient but while all other directions work perfectly, the combinations alt + 4 (left) and alt + 3 (down right) don’t work

Does anyone else have the same problem?

Hello! Hurray! I was fiddling with this for a while last night trying to fix my system, thinking maybe ALT+NUMPAD_FOUR was somehow being captured by the system and not being passed to Lightburn. So glad to see it isn’t just me.

I’m configuring an Adafruit Macropad 2040 to move the laser around and ran into this problem.

I’m on Ubuntu, what about you?

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Click into the grid to confirm it is capturing keyboard input
  2. Press numpad 8, 4, 2, 6, to move the laser up, left, down, right by 10mm (works)
  3. Press CTRL+numpad 8, 4, 2, 6, to move the laser up, left, down, right by 2mm (works)
  4. Press ALT+numpad 8, 4, 2, 6, to move the laser up, left, down, right by 0.2mm
    • Note that all combos work except ALT+NUMPAD_FOUR

Workaround

  1. Use CTRL+4 to move the laser left by 2mm
  2. Press ALT+6 nine times to move the laser right by 1.8mm

Maybe this is a known issue and this is why the ALT modifier isn’t mentioned in the tooltips? FWIW, I find this level of adjustment super useful!

Thanks!

Hi! Yes I too bought a numpad to control the laser engraver. I confirm that the standard movement and the mini movement with ctrl work perfectly. The microsteps with alt all work except alt 4. That’s the last configuration I need, after that the numpad will be complete!

I’m on windows 10, so I don’t think it depends on the system
