I finished an engraving that came out pretty much how I wanted on 3mm basswood. I had enough room on the same sheet of basswood to do another engraving, so I just moved the laser down, and started running. As you can see from the photo, the 2nd (bottom) photo is much lighter, and there is a scorched mark on the edge of the seashell upper left of the board. I didn’t change any settings at all, except for refocusing the laser. I tried again on another board (not shown), and the engraving was even lighter than the bottom photo. Any ideas why this is happening?
Could have been an inconsistency/soft area in the wood grain?
Did you use air assist all the time? This is highly recommended. The lens or nozzle might get dirty over time and the beam gets disturbed.
yes, I did have air-assist on, about 1/2 power.
I have no idea. It was a 12x12 piece of 3mm basswood. The whole board looks the same, but I’m assuming there must be differences I don’t see.
