Laser control board distance from laser

HI Folks, Wondering what the consensus is here regarding this. Ive had a number of laser tree modules and never really had problem re set up and use, got my moneys worth sort of thing. However after a recent move and re-setup of the laser I moved the laser control board further away from the laser module. I used to have the control board ride the laser module cradle but thought it better to have it outside the laser enclosure for longevitys sake. However Im finding that the engraving gradient and tone Im getting from the laser is now significantly less or at least I think it is and the laser is maxing out pretty much close to the 5% to 10% power level. Anything higher and I might as well be cutting. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.Jim.

The wiring in the Chinese laser is the absolute minimum wire gauge that will work. If you extend the wiring, upsizing the wire is to be an expected requirement. All the wire, not just the extensions.

You may also get into issues of signal crosstalk in the wiring.

You could also put the controller board in a box with a fan and a piece of a HEPA filter, and not extend the wiring.

If you really need to move away the controller board from the machine, I’m exactly of the same opinion as @MikeyH
It is imperative that you increase the wiring cross-section and separate the control wiring from the signal wiring to avoid interference.
