I am new to this entire Laser thing. I am looking for a process to take a CNC wood project out of Vectric Aspire (2.5 vectoring) and then putting it on a Boss 1630 and engraving the the words into the project. Think about a Book being open on a nightstand, typically it will have curved pages. I want to emulate a hard bound book with the pages open in the middle and having the words follow the skewness of the pages to make it look authentic. Any suggestions for the rookie?
Unfortunately, most lasers can not do what you are asking. The head can not adjust itself to follow the contours vertically unless you have a $1000+ laser head designed specifically for the task. The best you can do is to use a 4" lens which has a longer focal range, but parts will be in focus and parts will be out of focus. You would have better luck engraving the words using your CNC router with a very fine vbit or ballnose bit.
Thank you. I was hoping I could do this. Sometimes the words are too fine for a vbit and I really wanted the laser process to work. Again, thanks…
I am not sure what v-bits you have used for engraving but you could try a 10 or 20 degree v-bit. I have used a 20 degree with good results doing fine carving
Its more than likely my lack of experience. Several times I have tried taking a 20 degree vbit to carve out words on a bible or a scroll and both times the plunge went too deep and caused the letters to run on top of each other. A little gun shy now. I believe I even tried a Flat Depth. Again, more than likely operator error. Hope I don’t make other users upset by talking CNC stuff on an engraving software forum. Sorry in advance everyone…
