What is everyone’s opinion on the best wood to use for engraving photos? I’m using a Laser Master 3 with lightburn.
TIA
The best results for me, has been using maple.
I have also had good results with the sapwood from cherry and walnut.
(the wood is kiln dried)
I look for pieces that have the least amount of streaking or grain lines.
Because all photo’s are not created equal, I use scrap wood (a lot) to test the engrave.
I’ve never been able to nail it on the first try or the second… it always needs tweaking.
I thought mybe it would be, but i never tried it. I also use scrap wood a lot for tests, but sometimes the different wood grain will burn darker/lighter in some areas and it messes up the whole project. Do you think that maple plywood from Lowes would be ok to use?
What are your thoughts on Bass wood and Birch?
I wasn’t sure about basswood, so I did a quick test. (Go Lions!!!)
So yes, I think basswood is a good choice.
I haven’t tried plywood yet, but I’d think I would choose Birch that’s usually a clean wood with a light grain.
One thing nice about the box stores, if they have enough material in inventory you can sort thru to find a good piece.
Thats right, you can choose your own material that way. I might see what Lowe’s has, and try the birch. Thanks for the info
What settings regarding speed and everything do you need to make a good photo im new to this and dont understand it many thanks
I’d say watching these videos is a good place to start.
Then if you have some scrap material try some testing with your machine to see the actual results.
Hope this helps.
Your a star thanks very much
