Laser Head Speed when Swapping Between Lasers

I have both an OMTECH 90W CO2 laser and a Creality Falcon 10W diode laser.

I learned earlier this year that I can operate each of them at the same time from the same computer by selecting “New Window” from the top menu instead of just “New.” Marvelous.

Lately, however, when I’ve switched from the GBRL 1.1 diode (which is set up for mm/min) to the Ruida CO2 (which is set up for mm/sec), I notice that the speed settings on the CO2 have changed to the mm/sec equivalent of the mm/min setting.

So, 600 mm/min is 10 mm/sec, but the CO2 setting reads 600 mm/sec but moves at 10mm/min.

I’m probably struggling to describe this accurately, but I had been cutting on my CO2 laser and noticed that the laser head was creeping along a a snail’s pace and setting my piece on fire (or at least smoldering) because it was moving so slowly.

So, if anyone has any tips on what I need to keep in mind when running two different lasers from one-computer single-installation of Lightburn, I’d be happy to hear them.

I had a similar issue a while back when I was running a diode and C02 from the same machine. When I would switch between machines the settings would read correctly in the cuts/layers window but the machine would work with the wrong settings. Just like you’re describing.

The way I got around this was to go to the Device Settings Menu (wrench & screwdriver icon) and change the units to the opposite setting, (if it was set for mm/min. change to mm/sec, etc.) click OK then reopen the dialog and set the units back to the correct setting. It would work properly then.

I have not used both machines from the same computer for quite some time and don’t recall if this was a one time thing or if I had to do this every time I switched.

Tim,

Does that fall under the designation of “counter-intuitive”?

I am willing to try that, but I have just downloaded and installed the LB 2.0.00 upgrade . . . and the “Device Settings” and “Machine Settings” are no longer at the bottom of the Edit drop-down list. Just “Settings” is there.

So I will have to go a-hunting for them . . .

And just curious, did you have separate “Material Libraries” established for each? Did you get the correct “Materials Library” by default for each device when you switched between the two?

I’m currently in a major time crunch trying to get products ready for major shows next week. Great timing, eh?

They moved them to the laser tools menu, but I always use these icons, it’s faster access.

Yes to both questions.

I don’t know if this is the correct or required wqy, it’s just what I tried that worken in my situation.

From what I understand, when you select a device, the device settings for that device are loaded. I only use mm/s, so I wouldn’t have noticed if that’s the only issue.

My work area is correct as is the correct home corner. I have an led, fiber and co2, they all are correctly configured when I select the proper device.

I believe I had to open the correct library for the device the first time, then it remembered.

I’m also on 1.7 using Ubuntu…
