Laser homing a problem

This indicates you are using the control panel on the machine, not Lightburn. I thought there is no such sequence in Lightburn. Am I wrong here?

There is no control panel on the macine, all control is with Lightburn

Ok, let us start over and figure it out. Some things might be answered above, but I would like it all in one place. Reference your answers with the numbers. If I make a wrong assumption, correct me.

  1. Where are the Home switches located (like front or bottom right)?
  2. Do you have Auto-Home on Startup turned on?
  3. If you enter $HX in the Console, does it Home just the Xaxis, do nothing, or give an alarm message in the Console.
  4. You say it does not Home the Yaxis, but does it try?

I cannot see your machine from here, so detailed answers would be helpful.

Hi Mike.

  1. Cannot find any home switches.
  2. though X and Z go home using $HX or $HZ.
Y will jog but not go home $HY but moves
  3. Auto home turned on

Seems strange that I cannot find any switches, my previous machine was the same but an older version and found switches when I dismantle it.
Machine does not try to home any axis on power on.
Regards Trevor

Detailed answers, right? $HY it moves, but which direction and how far?

Depending where it is, it seems to be trying to go to home. It goes forward then backwards a few mm even though it’s nowhere near home, then stops.
If I manually push the body to the rear home position, then power on, when I push the home button all 3 axis home correctly, including Y, I can then use the machine normally. If I try to home from its park position, its way out of position in Y, X and Z are correct.
I think this machine is not designed to home from distance in Y which is not acceptable.

It sounds like your machine is getting hung up with the cabling somewhere. If you can Jog or Run the full range of the Yaxis, it should be able to Home from anywhere.

Turn off the laser and SLOWLY move the gantry from front to back, and back several times. Look for any resistance or jerkiness along the entire travel range.

had the same issue with the max 80, I updated the firmware, and it solved the issue

Hi Mike, will try that.
Member Skil had same issue and he updated the firmware, would that solve mine and how is that done.

Hello Mike
Did as you suggested and found the right hand side tight, loosened it off and moved the carriage by hand forwards and backwards, all seemed free.
Turned on the machine and pressed home…
it homed all axis…hooray.
It still doesn’t home on start up but I can live with that.
Thank you for all your help
Some instructions from Neje would help.
Best regards Trevor

get the NEJE app from the web site … NEJE Control Software for Windows – NEJE

Some machines Home on power up, some do not. Mine will Home when I select the COM port in the Laser window. Is Auto-Home on Startup in the Device Settings window turned on?

Will it home if you leave it close to the limit switches and power up (and connect to Lightburn)? If so, it appears the NEJE app mentioned by @Skil is going to be the solution.

Auto-home on start up is on.
Will have a look if i can get it to work

Thanks Skil.
All seems working at present, so I’m leaving it alone.
