Laser Light Safety

I have my Atomstack diode laser in an enclosure and want to monitor the progress on a monitor located next to the laser via a webcam in the enclosure. Is this safe for viewing? None of the blue light is escaping the enclosure but you can see it in the monitor. Is this ok? Or is that light still harmful somehow?

I would think it’s safe for viewing as the beam cannot travel through the lens and out the monitor. It is possible, however unlikely, that a direct hit with the laser beam could damage the camera.

Thats my thoughts as well, but wanted to get some other opinions and thoughts just in case. Thanks for the response.

If you’re not seeing any of the blue light directly from the diode on the laser, you’re fine.

Take care that any transparent shielding you use is rated laser safety acrylic, which will have the OD rating and wavelength permanently etched or stamped onto it.

you risk nothing at all, for information if you are looking for a plexiglass pre’ez red or orange, do not be fooled by the special laser materials overpriced … It is very simple to find the right one.. if the UV laser marks and burns this material, it is because it absorbs the laser therefore its wavelength. if it does not absorb (does not burn), then it is dangerous! On my twotreesy has a red cover the laser appears WHITE through which is ESSENTIAL, my homemade box is in orange acrylic, first price (it is already quite expensive!), the laser appears white too, even if I remove the original red cover. A test was carried out with a spectrum analyzer and indeed 100% of the UV are blocked. I saved more than 400 euros on plexiglass. On the other hand, for the glasses, you have to pay the price and use certified glasses AND ADAPTED to the correct wavelength of your laser, which is indicated in the laser documentation and at the glasses manufacturer, BOTH must correspond imperatively! . In your case, the webcams have an integrated filter, and as the UV passes through the camera then through the screen, they are converted into blue light and not UV .the only UV rays you will have will come from your monitor, I can put photos just in case
