Good afternoon.
I am just curious about my laser offsets. I have the longmill MK2 48x30 I am wondering if I can offset the laser from my home position? I have limit switches on my machine so I home my machine every single time I log on.
Thank you.
Yes, but why? If you work in Absolute Coordinates, there is a 1:1 correlation to the workspace and the machine work area. You can use Show Last Position button and the Set Laser Position tool to proper align the part and/or drawing. Be sure to take advantage of the laser Fire button.
You can always use Origin to set positions, but Origin is a software position and not a machine position. therefore, you get into issues getting the two to cooperate.
If you describe your process or workflow, we may better understand why you asked the question.
OK here is what I am working with. I have a longmill MK2 CNC machine that I purchased the laser add on for it. I have limit switches on my machine so when I start up lightburn it automaticaly goes to my machine home. This is my CNC bit home location not the laser. I would like to have an offset programed into lightburn so after my machine homes itself my laser goes to a designated starting spot. I hope this makes more sense.
Thank you for the assistance.
Whether you replace the spindle motor with the laser module, or Velcro it to the side, makes no difference. That is the Machine Home position.
If you want the laser to move to an out-of-the-way position, like I did, then Instead of using the Program Origin set a Macro button that does the move for you.
I am guessing your CNC 48x30 has a 480mm x 300mm working area and the Xaxis is the larger of the two dimensions. I also assume the Home position is the front-left corner of the table AND your positing showing in the Move window is very close to 0,0,0.
So Assign G00 X450 Y150 Z0 to a button and label it “Retract”. I included “Z” because I figured your laser may have a Zaxis feed.
The only time I do not use Absolute Coords is when using the rotary. That and having Home switches eliminates a lot of positioning issues.
This is good. As long as you do not move it by hand after power it up or hit a rail, the machine, Lightburn, and you will always know where the laser head is located.
Ok that sounds great.
I turn on lightburn and it goes to machine home and then I go to my laser start position which is X2.5 Y5.5 is where I want my laser to start. I pull in a file and the green and red square is in bottom left corner but when I try to frame the project it goes back to my machine home instead of framing from my laser position. Any assistance would be great.
Thank You.
I never pay attention to those, but I think the green square is the Origin of your program. If it is sitting on the red one, that will be the lower left corner od the Frame operation.
Can you upload your Lightburn (.LBRN2) file so we can see what you are seeing? Don’t edit or change it from what is giving you grief. That will help us a lot.
