Afternoon Tech heads - I hope you could point a newb in the right direction, I have searched the forums and only found 1 person with the same issue back in 2020, but there was never an update and the thread was closed.
A Brief history:
A couple of weeks into my Laser journey - Bought a cheep 2nd hand 60w Red/Black clone to learn on.
Day 1: Topwisdom Controller fried and blew the screen on turn on! - great start.
Day 2: I fitted Ruida RDC644G (which came as a spare with the machine prior to Topwisdon being supported) with the help of a YT video.
Laser won’t fire unless I un-check door switch in settings - I’ll look into this at a later date.
Day 3: Copied all the settings from a post in this forum for a RED/BLACK chineese clone and got it up and running.
Day 4: Fixed the non working LED Dot (loose wire internally)
Week 2: Replaced all mirrors and conducted full alignment - cutting better now.
Managed to home in on sweet spot for cutting MDF of different thicknesses.
Week 3: Trying out engraving and noticed that whatever I dial the power down to, the laser still fires and cuts. even 1% - this can’t be right.
To test, Ive also set the Max on the controller also to 1% and it still pulses when pressed.
Ive read on here that many people will not have a tube firing below around 15% so obviously there is something amiss.
Before I start uploading settings pictures I was just wondering if I was missing something really obvious.
Any ideas?
I thank you all in advance for any assistance you can give.
I’m guessing it’s wired up wrong… However if this is the case it shouldn’t be operating very well for anything.
Some of these use a positive laser enable, the Ruida pulls it low for enable.
Use a voltmeter and check the output of the pwm signal. No need to have lps enabled. The pwm at 50% should read ~2.5V, it should be a percentage of 5V…
I was feeling that after another thread I found (which you also helped someone out with) - strike of the cheap Chinese clones! - sounds like another rubbish Star Wars Movie Title lol.
I dont want to waste time messing about so Ive ordered another IPS - will update to see if that is the issue when it turns up.
Thanks for your help again.
Ok, so I’ve bought a brand new LPS, fitted it and it’s exactly the same!
I tested on a cut and fill set to 1% and tube is still firing.
So I’ve had a look at vendor settings (thinking that tube settings may have an effect)
I’ve turned off dual tube then toggled each tube (writing back to the controller each time) and tested. Tube still fires for each setting so just for giggles I turned both tubes off in settings, wrote that to the controller- it still fires! LB shows neither tube selected. I’m thinking firmware, broken controller (weird as it is brand new) or the wiring is wrong
SOLVED!!! - Checked the wiring diagram from Ruida (rather than the YT Video) and cable for LPWM is shown in L-AN1. Didn’t check before as another thread here said it shouldn’t matter. Swopped them over and it works!
1st time since owning the machine weeks ago it does what I tell it to do - shame it cost me new power supply I didn’t need in the process but ill keep the old one as a spare.
Cheers again!
