Laser stops and won't restart

Hi, I’m having issues with my laser suddenly stopping. The machine is still on but the laser turns off and stops moving. The only way to get it to continue is to unplug and start over, but it won’t continue the burn from where it stopped. From what I’ve read it seems like it might be a power issue? I plugged it into a different outlet and did a 30+ hr burn and it was fine. I’ve attached the console messages from beginning to end. Is there a code I can enter into the console to get it to continue from where it stopped? If it is a power issue, any suggestions on how to fix that? Thanks in advance for any help!

Appears you are running grbl 1.1f

Copy, then paste the ‘boot message’, in the reply. It is much easier to read than a photo, screenshots are preferred.

The photo that did ‘make’ it shows no errors. When the laser stops do you get any error messages in the ‘console’ window?

If so, paste them in with the other information…

There is some command that isn’t recognized. Could be how you are set up for that device.

Have you been able to run anything?

I’m not clear from the output exactly what happened.

It’s likely that the alarm is being raised by some sort of shock or bump sensor. it’s a safety feature designed to avoid fires or other hazardous scenarios.

It could be that if the laser is shaking or moving too much that this is getting triggered. It could also be that the sensor is being overly sensitive. Ortur has had some problem tuning this to the right levels. Your Universal might have something similar going on.

These configurations are usually proprietary so unless someone knows offhand you’d need to get information from the manufacturer or documentation how to remedy this.

I have been able to do other burns. I did a burn the other day that was over 30 hrs without issues. Is there something that I should check in the setup?

Similar issue except laser head stops moving during burn, yet the laser is still firing which burns a hole in the wood. The only way I have found to stop laser is to use physical emergency stop button. I cannot then get the laser to continue the burn from stopped position. The burn starts from the very beginning.

Using Absolute Coordinates. GRBL 1.1f. How do I pause the burn without having to restart the burn from the original starting point. How do I resume the burn from the stopped position?

My students are repurposing old gymnasium bleacher boards into Adirondak style chairs to be given away to elderly community members whom value our school system. We need to get a good burn without ruining a non-replaceable board. The first gentleman in 94 yrs old so time in of essence.

Hi Sig,

Can you tell us more about your Laser engraver. A model number can be quite helpful.

Can you post pictures of what the laser did? Your comment about ‘the very beginning’ could be a simple setting error but that setting by itself won’t cause the laser to park and burn as described.

Can you open the Console window and enter $$ and copy-paste the information into a reply here?

It could be fairly helpful to repeat the test on some cheap throw-away boards and capture / share the information from the Console window after a job fails as well.

This may be of assistance in the pressured days to come.

The machine is a JTech Photonics Acro.

The controller is GRBL 1.1 Arduino UNO Shield

The firmware is GRBL 1.1h

The Lightburn version is 1.0.06

This issue has happened before.

The computer Is: (see screenshot)

I started a burn with an estimated 2 hour burn time using absolute coordinates. The machine stopped moving about 40 minutes into the burn. The laser is not firing. The laser window indicates the laser is busy and the timer is still running indicating the laser has now been operating for 1 hour and 15 minutes. See the screenshot of the laser windows.

I tried the same burn project and the laser again went into idle mode. I cannot restart the burn.

The laser is not continuing to burn while stopped both of these times, but in the past the laser has kept firing and burned a hole in the board.

Actually I’m wondering if you’re running into an undercurrent situation.

Check your power supply. Do you have a replacement power supply that can support your laser module, controller, and steppers that you can try?
