Laser stops firing when test button pressed

Hi there, we have a black & red laser off of Amazon with an m2 controller. The laser is firing continuously when turned on but stops firing when we press the test button. Like it’s working backwards. We’re unsure whether it’s the controller or the PCU that’s causing the issue. Has anyone else run into this?

Somehow I fat fingered a pm to you… it was meant to be public.

Might be able to help, but an m2 controller is unfamiliar to me. Have a link?

I would assume most of these would have some kind of dsp controller?

I believe, that’s an original 8051 based board for the K40, doesn’t speak grbl, so incompatible with Lightburn.

Is this an upgrade, or did you change any wiring? Laser power supply (lps) or?

No, nothing upgraded and nothing changed. And yes, you’re right, it is not lightburn compatible.

I actually don’t know these control boards. It’s usually difficult to have a failure and that inverts the output of something… So I’m not really sure what to tell you.

You can chase down Laser enable, or L for your supply. Many of these set the current limiting via a dc control voltage on the IN pin. Then they turn the tube on/off with the pwm.

This could only happen if the pwm has become inverted… I’m not sure what to advise you. Since it’s not Lightburn compatible, I doubt you’ll get much assistance here with this.

I’d suggest you go to Makers Forum, they use these a lot and someone there can probably help you… I think @DougL has one of these animals. He’s active at Makers forum also.

I think you’ll get a faster response over there than here…

Good luck

As @jkwilborn said, Maker Forums is a better place for this since not only is it possibly hardware( LightBurn is only software ) but the M2 Nano is not compatible with LightBurn and there are developers for Meerk40t, K40Whisperer etc over on Maker Forums which are compatible with the M2 Nano.

But disconnect the computer and try powering it up and let them know if you get the same functionality. Also state what software you are using. see you over at Maker Forums

Thanks for hopping in… These nano boards, although quite amazing are a bit out of touch for my knowledge base.

Emphasized by the fact that I’ve never had one. :face_with_spiral_eyes:
