Laser Stops mid burn; no entry within console given

I’ve had the twotrees tts-20 pro for over a year now and never gave me problems.

This has been going on for a day or so:

Laser engraving stops mid project; sometimes keeps on firing. Progress bar continues. No entry on the console of this situation.

When I turn off the laser engraver and lightburn; and turn both of them on I get this in the console:

MSG:Tool No: 2

without the laser homing in on the bottom left corner as usual.

It doesn’t recognize there is a laser engraver connected. I’ve pushed on the hard switches and occassionally it would sort of recognise the laser engraver and the head would home in again at the bottom corner. I can also run frame and frame would freeze mid way.

I’ve read this can be a connection error so I used an other USB cable; and also switched my laptop (surface pro 5 to gpd win max) to no avail

I’ve also read this could be a lightburn version compatability issue so switched to 1.7.00 to no avail

I’ve read someone had old firmware and I’ve tried to update the twotrees tts20pro firmware but I cannot select any tab once I’ve installed the MKS laser tool. I’ve found an alterative installer on github but not sure what module the tts20pro uses and dont want to flash something that may actually brick my laser; especially when im not very tech chevy.

I’ve sent an email to twotrees but i will imagine it will take some time to go through.

Is there something else you may think i should try? Its strange because this situation came unproved (i didn;t fiddle with any settings)

what does MSG:Tool No: 2 mean? I couldn’t find an answer

First check if your trying to connect via wifi and USB same time second remove the TF card and power cycle the laser(power and USB).

For the firmware upgrade. Instructions here:

iv tried using mks laser tool but once i installed it and opened the application i cannot choose any tab and basically the software isnt working for me.

I have never used the wifi module and i never inserted a tf card in the laser engraver

I’ve somehow managed to get into the tab which allows me to flash the controller.

I have flashed with the latest firmware with the link you provided; but its still giving me issues; its still stopping mid project; but now it seems to disconnect less

This is the latest error I got:
ALARM:3

Reset while in motion. Grbl cannot guarantee position. Lost steps are likely. Re-homing is highly recommended.

On or near line 0:

Job halted

Stream completed in 4:01

Grbl 1.1h [‘$’ for help]

ok

[MSG:‘$H’|‘$X’ to unlock]

$X

ok

[MSG:Caution: Unlocked]

ok

but occasionally on restarting lighburn I keep getting waiting for connection and Msg Tool 2 issues

Previously on turning on the machine it would automatically home in at a slow speed; now when it does recognise the laser it would move much quicker to home in

A few things to check:

  • USB cable
  • Electrical noise
  • Windows USB power management
  • Try a new power supply with more Amps.
  • USB cable - i have used 2 different usb cables; same issue
  • Electrical noise - no new sounds noticed
  • Windows USB power management - i didn’t change any settings but will give this a shot
  • Try a new power supply with more Amps - will this not cause harm?

Only if your machine has a short-circuit will absorb more than full power instantly, in normal conditions only absorbs the Amps needed and no harm.
