Laser stops mid project

Just recently my laser has been stopping randomly during a project but the timer in lightnurn is still going i am running lightburn core 2.0.02 and my xtoool s1 is running most recent version. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the lightnurn software as well and readding the laser to the software. When i run with the xcs software i dont have the same issue but i prefer lightburn. Please help

Yes it happens to me as well. Are you using a windows 11 laptop/pc? Didn’t have this issue wirh my old windows 10 laptop.

Yes but its the same laptop ive been using the last 2 years

Three areas to investigate…

  1. USB communication issues.
  2. Power supply failing.
  3. Laser overheating.

Look at:

  1. Try a quality cable with a ferrite on it.
  2. Run at lower power and speed to see if it stays on longer.
  3. When was the last time you cleaned the laser head fins?

I’ve seen some similar issues discussed here on the forum. I’ve always had the impression that it’s a communication problem. The way communication works, and the amount of information transferred, can, or does, vary depending on the software. That’s why communication is so important.

I would do a search on the forum looking for cases that have already been resolved. They might be helpful in this case.

Yeah i looked through all the threads before i posted. And ive had no problems for the last 3 years with lightburn its just the last 3 daysthis has started happeneing

I had the same problem, I fixed everything, see one of my posts

I reviewed your post only thing i havent tried is a new power supply for the laser but since it works with the xcs software it seems like it wouldnt be that but i may try it anyways

This is the least qualitative part of a laser engraver, take a higher power but with the same voltage, see also the laser settings in lb as

That was #1 and #3. Opinions seem to point to #2, right?

Ive tried 2 as well. Same issue. Again if i switch to the xcs software no issues

If I am not mistaken, XCS uses a proprietary communications protocol. If everything you tried (2-3 times I hope) is not a solution, it seems to boil down to a communications protocol setting in Lightburn. This brings us to the click-and-try troubleshooting method.

If you are interested, another user mentioned using PuTTY.exe for troubleshooting. I did a Google and came up with this info. Download and remove the .TXT extension from the PDF file.

COM Test with PuTTY.pdf.TXT (273.4 KB)

Let us know if you learn anything.

Have you tried the setting options like gcode clustering, baud rate, etc? I already had this problem when upgrading to v2.0, many parameters had been set to low values by default, just re-adjust

Since you mentioned xTool, I am wondering if you are experiencing the same problem as I was:

There is a setting just for the USB ports. This is copied from another Forum posting:

Sleep mode (link), (which replaced screen-savers) and a Windows 10/11 feature called USB Selective Suspend (link) both shut off usb ports after some inactivity.
