Laser wont move at all. help

Im a beginner and laser was working fine when i was doing simple test designs and getting familiar with lightburn. Now the laser wont move once it makes 1 move on the x-axis. i tried turning it off and back on thinking it was just a hiccup but once again as soon as i hit the move button to move the laser left or right it just stops and wont respond to anything. my laser is a sculpfun S9.

lightburn keeps telling me that it is unable to query laser position.

I suggest two major things:

  1. Make sure to turn on the laser with the laser head in the very front-left of the laser
  2. Use Absolute Coords as Start from mode in Laser window. Use nothing else until you are very familiar with how your laser moves and with LightBurn.

Done and Done. laser still freezes and has no communication once laser makes 1cm move on x-axis, any thoughts? Keeps stating can not query laser position in machine settings. maybe a software issue with the sculpfun s9?

Can you take a screenshot of LightBurn when this comes up?

What exactly are you doing when this gets triggered?

This does sound like a potential communication issue. You may want to try a different USB cable and port on your computer.

Just doing basic of all basic etches to learn and get the hang of this diode laser. But every time i hit go the laser moves 1 mm and then stops and freezes and i can no longer get it to move at all. I have to then turn everything off and back on. I can manually move the laser up and down with the arrows in the move box but as soon as i try going right it freezes and no longer responsive.

Can you push “Save gcode” in Laser window and save the file with a .txt extension and then upload here?

gcode.txt (538 Bytes)

gcode.txt (538 Bytes)
here is another.

I don’t see anything wrong in the gcode. I strongly suspect a communication issue or possibly a board issue.

Can you test using LaserGRBL to see if you get any different results?

Check the cable plugging into the X-drive motor. I’ve found these sometimes come loose.

The parameter $100 is completely off. Set it to 80, not 3200. This will cause moving the motor extremely slow (and it might seem the laser is not responding because it will take ages until it’s finished).

Good catch.

Thank you all for the help! changing the parameter $100 solved my issue. I have a whole bunch more to learn and will be more careful in the future.

thank you for the help and awesome links
