In my search for easier ways to align my Monport K40 laser, I have a few questions:
I am looking at upgrading the mirror mounts of the K40 that would make them easier to align. Setscrews with a strong springset for example. What would be a good choice?
I ran into this, does anyone have experience with something like that?
A red dot or beam combiner is very tempting for easier adjustment of one’s laser beam.
However, the loss of a little power and the relatively high additional costs have kept me from buying a solution for my K40. When I have to change my 60(50) Watt tube for my current machine, I will, however, buy a tube with an integrated red laser.
Yep, I have seen those too from SPT laser (link) but for the K40 they only have a 30W version plus shipping from China to Europe is costing me 3 times the price of the laser all costs together. But I do like their lasers with this red pointer build-in.
Russ Sadler did a video on using led and suggested the spt model…
However, I’ve written him and asked about using that as a replacement, since I’ve never had a pointer on the co2 (new, yes, but removed it in < 2 weeks).
He advised not to do this, he has had numerous people having issues with these built in combiners, so he doesn’t recommend them anymore.
At least with the built in ones, the power loss has been compensated.
Just passing on what he told me… If you want one, go for it … I went with a lower cost tube… never have used a pointer anyway…
Let us know how it works out for either (anyone) that has one…
