While engraving the laser made a slight grinding sound and then moved off the framed area in the x-axis direction. It did this a couple mores times on the same picture and at the end of the project just tailed off again in the x direction.
It happens occasionally on these type of projects.
See picture attached
This has all the signs of a lost motion problem. Especially the strange noise before the change in the x axis travel. Generally the answer is to Slow Down but I’d be interested to have some input from @Anwen on the subject.
John.
I did some further testing as follows:
… the picture (1) was engraved in Stucki as suggested by LightBurn software when imported. I had done some modifications of the image quality. I re-engraved it again this morning and had the same erratic behavior as reported earlier. The grating sound remained as before and actually continued when the laser head moved to HOME at the end
… for different reasons l took the same picture (original) and modified it externally to LightBurn and then engraved it as Stucki using the same speed/power settings as Picture 1. It was almost perfect except for the last 5% of the picture (2)
… l then changed to Jarvis and the picture turned out perfect at a speed of 6000mm/min as used for all the engravings done.
I did further testing and all the newer engravings are perfect using Jarvis or Atkinson and at 6000 speed and 20-80% power.
Amazingly I used only 25% power at 6000 speed to engrave the graphic on soft cedar.
The problem is no more but l don’t know the exact reasons.
@RennieC To locate the problem, May I ask some questions? Have you tried to use XCS to engrave? if not, please try to use the XCS to engrave, will you meet the same issue? Meanwhile, right now you are using the USB cable to connect to your PC,right? please try to use the wifi connection and try again to do a test, I just want to make sure the problem is not caused by the USB connection, what’s the firmware version of your machine?
