Latest version of Lightburn not working

Shoot. I thought that might be the case but couldn’t recall for sure.

Do you have any issue doing this from CNCjs?

I had been going with the understanding that you’re now getting this behavior with even the older version. Is that not right? If so, then suggest you stick with known working version until the issue is sorted.

Don’t blame you. Coming back with fresh eyes can also be insightful.

I can do $$ from CNCjs with no issues at all.

This is no longer correct. All versions of Lightburn are now acting like this.

Ive run numerous checks on my pc and check other devices plugged into USBs and these run fine. So im happy my pc is running correctly.
Ive run checks from the Inventables websites and forum and am happy my XCarve is running correctly (it still carves).
Since Lightburn update it just hasnt worked for me. Its shame, as I paid for a licence and yet it wont run. I guess Ill have to use something else. Thank you so much for your help.

One last attempt before i call it a day again.
Powered off everything
Rebooted PC
Opened Lightburn
Selected - Enable Debug Log
Started up Xcarve
Homed Laser
Machine Locks up
Quit Lightburn

Heres the log in case anyone can read it…

Hi, have you tried using a fresh download of lightburn for reinstalling?

Can you confirm you’ve configured the device as GRBL? Click Devices in Laser window then the name of your laser. What is listed at the bottom of that window for device?

Yes. 100% GRBL.
Have not changed anything and it was working fine before.
I’ve ordered a new laptop just in case as mines pretty old so as soon as that arrives I’ll install Lightburn and give it one more go before I remove Lightburn for good.

Curious indeed… Do you happen to have a System Restore point in Windows from earlier that you could try reverting to?

Yes. I tried a system restore last week. It’s so frustrating.

Chris, I just see your issue and i have the same set-up as you with x-carve running on the same usb cable. Are you by chance running through Easel for your output to your X-Carve? I found that i had to shut down Easel completely for Lightburn to run properly. Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply Richard. No I’m not running through easel. I don’t really use that at all other than flashing my GRBL. I use VCarve for all my carvey type stuffs. Plus the amount of time I’d quit Lightburn and rebooted pc I’m sure it wouldn’t be running?
I’ve invested in a new pc. I’ll give that a shot when I have some free time in case it was a pc issue. Thanks again.

So… my new pc arrived, ive set it up exactly the same as before. Run a dummy file (no laser on just the movement) and things seem to be working as they should.
Im thinking it my have been some rogue driver or something. Ill leave this open though until i have time to properly interrogate the machine and software. Thanks again for you help.

Glad you’re back up and running. Will be interesting to narrow in on what specifically is going on with your old computer. I tend to not think it’s a driver issue since it also affected your ability to save preference changes. But it’s possible you have multiple things going on concurrently as well.

I have COMPORT issues between my LightBurn for laser CNC and gSender for my LonMill CNC ever since WINDOWS 10 UPDATED ! Never had issues before. LB uses CH340(com4) and LM uses COM4. Never run the machines at same time either. Took a day to recover those issues for some dumb reason and must make sure the usb cable is unplugged from the machine not is use now… but I want to change the comport number on the non ch340 machine… did that and all kinds of trouble again… wasted time to recover again!
So… is this a windows update that is causing all these problems??

Hmm… i haven’t done a windows update in a while, and I’d previously did a little work without any disruptions. All my issues started after Id updated to the latest version of Lightburn, so maybe its a combination of them both?
My new laptop is Windows 11 and seems to be working fine now.
