We make stuff ourselves so we can price at what the current market is roughly for a product. We’ve been asked to engrave a logo into 50 boards. The design was made so don’t need to do anything with that. What price do you guys charge roughly for work. The design will take about 10 minutes to engrave and is 100mm round. I’m in the uk if that helps
I don’t do laser work for others ATM (save for a few friends) so I can’t give You an exact rate, but if I would, there’s usually two ways to determine what to charge.
Regardless of the task in question.
The first is to somehow find out what such a task costs when someone else does it.
That can be used as a base, and can -and should- be adjusted in order to get the job and to be fairly compensated.
The second is the way such rates are usually calculated, and that’s Your time + all the other costs involved with the job.
Ideally, those two are compared, and the final hourly-/minute/batch-rate is determined.
There’s obviously a lot of all kinds of variables involved when someone does a task for someone else and charges for it, but those are the bare bones basics.
Like cloxart said above about £1 per minute seems the going rate. This is the first job of someone coming to us that we’ve done or doing so don’t want to put them off with a high price or still giving them a low price. The company used to get them done from another laser company who just shut down so be nice to get them for consistent work. I’ll also ask how much they’ve paid in the past too I guess
A guy I know has a saying " If you cut off your nose to get a job…Then all you’ve done is cut off your nose ".
Why did that other company go out of business!
How much do ‘You’ need to earn per week! Divide that by your number of working days and you have your price, because 10min per board x 50 ÷ 60 = 8.33hr…Assuming all goes well + Setup time + Cleanup time + Overheads + Vat/Tax + Packaging + PROFIT!.
Reducing price to get more work is simply working longer to earn less.
The avg customer will generally go with the lowest price, so a competitive advantage is very useful, such as location…Central to suppliers & customers, cost of materials + delivery, buyer collects, Labour cost…etc.
