Letters off and skipped

Ran into a problem:
7w Pro, X-Carve 1000
Just a little bit into a very long engraving, I started to see the letters change shape and and a skipping on the “R” and “D”.
Please see my settings on the second photo.
Any ideas?
just did the Lightburn update before the burn too

I did a smaller test burn a few days ago and it worked out fine.

If I had to guess I would say it looks like you’re binding along the X-axis. Either belts or the wheels are binding. That would explain the distortion and eventual skipping.

Make sure you’ve got no debris along the channel or on the wheels. Anything that would cause binding or labored movement.

Try moving the laser head by hand with power-off. Does the laser move freely to all corners of the machine?

If not that, it’s possible that the pulley on the X-axis has come loose. Check that the pulley is well secured.

These look like Traverse lines. These can occur when the early GRBL is used or the Laser Mode isn’t enabled. I see the word Laser in the Laser window. Can you tell me which controller setting you’re using; GRBL, GRBL-M3?

Oz explained in another post that ‘Flood-fill’ makes lots of short quick direction changes and can be pretty hard on an engraving project. Please click your C01 layer and open the setting window and share the settings so we can see what’s going on.
