License for updates expired for Lightburn GRBL 1.3.x, want to try trial, will it work?

I tried searching the forum but pretty much any posts that mention an expired license and use of the trial pertain to the trial license expiring along with other possible complications.

My issue should be much more simple. I purchased a license a while back and it was good for updates until 1.3.00. I like 1.3, but I’m interested in possibly purchasing a year of updates so I can upgrade to 2.x. Before I do this, I’d like to run the 2.x trial, but I’m unsure if it will work due to the old license.

Should I just uninstall 1.3.00 and then install the 2.x trial? If not, is there something else I can do, or would the pre-existing licensed version that has expired preclude me from testing the new version before upgrading?

Thank you all for you time and consideration.

I don’t think you can load the trial version on your current computer. Lightburn takes a “digital snapshot” of each computer it’s installed on. There is nothing preventing you from installing the trial on a different computer if you have one, or you could try deactivating your current installation in the license portal and attempt to load 2.0.05.You might also be able to load the release candidate for 2.1. Release candidates load in a separate folder alongside current version so i don’t know if the licensing issues apply to them. It won’t hurt to try.

With all that though, the renewal is only $30 and I think you will be well pleased with the advancements made in the software even if you only update to 1.7.08. Version 2 is using a different framework in the back end and has caused some issues with the displays on low resolution and high resolution screens. I think they have those mostly worked out for the upcoming 2.1 release.

You could install the 2.1 pre-release candidate. This installs in parallel to the current version, in an extra folder. Though, this won’t give you the exact experience, since it’s a testing version that may contain bugs.

Thanks for the info, I’ll try the license deactivation method first. I know the license renewal is only $30, but I am currently not in a position to be spending money on a whim. Fixed income and all that.

That said, I do plan on updating but just want to see v2 in action before I pull the trigger.

Thanks for the info Melvin, I may try the prerelease as well.

I understand tight funds. Hope one of the solutions offered works for you.

Deactivating the license on my workstation and uninstalling 1.3.0 worked perfectly. Admittedly, I added use of Revo Uninstaller to ensure no stray registry entries or files caused any issues as well, but I don’t know if it would have been necessary. The 2.0 trial is now up and running, and I can’t wait until I get paid next.

Thanks for your help!
