We have been using Lightburn with a K40 laser running GRBL for a few years with next to no issues. We have now upgraded to a Vevor RDC6445G with a Ruida controller. I have downloaded drivers, including USB drivers. The laser recognizes that it is plugged into the laptop, but Lightburn shows disconnected and “no device found” is shown at the bottom of Lightburn software. I upgraded to DSP controller on my license key, manually installed the laser because Lightburn would not find the device. Looking for help on how to get Lightburn and laser to communicate.
Make sure to choose the USB port from the laser window. It is set to auto by default and doesn’t always find the device.
Dump the usb and use your lan… much more dependable and there will be zero driver issues.
Strong powerful urgent heartfelt recommendation: ditch the USB connection, set up an Ethernet connection, and you will never ever look back.
There are some subtle gotchas to the Ethernet connection, mostly due to the brain-dead Ruida network implementation, but the doc and some previous discussions should get you to the goal.
Update! After much sleuthing and frustration, I decided to test connectivity using USB ports inside the machine. It didn’t take long to discover that the manufacturer had the USB relays installed incorrectly. Once I switched the ports everything connected just fine.
A couple of you mentioned going the ethernet route. My laptop doesn’t have a LAN port and I was trying to get up and running without having to fiddle with an adapter.
Do you mean the short cables that bring the USB port on the Ruida controller out to the side of the chassis of the laser engraver? Did they mix up USB and U-Disk?
I assume your laptop can connect to the Internet, if so, then you can use the Ruida over Ethernet… via your local lan.
Put the Ruida on your local lan, then you can use it without headaches. Mine is wifi connected as it lives in the garage. The Lightburn Bridge is the best option for wifi as it’ has a layer of code, by Lightburn, to handle the UDP issue with the Ruida.
I’ve had two PI’s wasted by thunderstorms that got into my garage, currently I’m using a TP-Link wireless bridge.
I’ll use the TP-link until I can replace the PI at a reasonable cost.
USB sucks
