I know there are many posts about this topic, but I am looking for general information on moving over to LightBurn. Luckily I am close to the LBX 2025 so will attend that.
I have been using my Snapmaker 2.0 with a 40w laser and do like its performance for my applications. Which is basically cutting and engraving 3mm stock for electronics covers and mounting plates. The LUBAN interface is just plain lousy
So simply, can I get the Lightburn to work seamlessly, or at least less clumsy than LUBAN and is there a decent interface to AutoCAD?
As far as interface to autocad, LightBurn imports dxf files.
LightBurn offers a free, fully functional 30 day trial. Download it and give it a whirl. There are many YouTube channels that offer tutorials and we are here on the forum to help.
Edit: I also believe snapmaker has to have a specific profile setup file. This should be available from their website if it isn’t on the provided memory card that came with your machine. It’s a *.lbdev file.
I’m using the SM Ray 20w and am thoroughly enjoying the learning curve with Lightburn. I have not used Luban so cannot compare.
If its important work your at you might save time by first making a note on what sections are relevant to which tasks and have it viewable as your working, just to filter out what you dont need to be looking at.
A flow chart might be useful for procedure and workflow.
Eventually it starts to become second nature and the What is it, Where is it, and How do I use it, become questions of detail choices.
Thx, I have my workflow pretty well defined, but there are a few extra steps I feel can be eliminate. There is small things like text does not save properly sometimes in LUBAN.
One of the major problems is that Snapmaker 2.0 does not save my work origin and it is 10mm off center on X and Y. Not to mention the cross hairs are offset from the work origin. This alone makes a few extra steps. Do you have the same issue with the work origin on yours?
I guess another work around is to set the work origin with my centering macro. I just hate work arounds
Plus the LUBAN support is not that good. Just looking for compatibility and experiences to figure out if LightBurn will make my life easier. Looks like it will
I’m full time focused on the artistic finish of jobs thus far and havent needed to think about the offset. Today for example I was working with four or five layers and would engrave my image but have the other layers not set to output, I then apply some powdercoat paint and scan that, brush off the residue and continue with the remaining layers.
The module goes back to work very precisely and finishes the job.
At some stage I will need to use specific coords to do oversized work or make additional changes and that learning is all in the Doc’s and topics here on the forum.
