Lightburn Camera and VirtualHere on Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W - Only Sort of Works

I purchased a Lightburn 4K-N camera and a Raspberry Pi Zero 2w to run VirtualHere. It only kind of works in Lightburn. I can see it in the camera control panel - eventually, but the previews don’t show up when I attempt calibration.

I dug up a USB extension cable and got the camera connected to my laptop and was able to calibrate and use the camera OK.

I’d really prefer to run wireless so I don’t have a USB cable draped across the floor for me to trip on and maybe damage a port.

I initially had the Raspberry Pi inside the laser enclosure and thought the steel cabinet might be blocking the WiFi signal (although the client software had no issue finding the VirtualHere hub) so I moved it outside the cabinet, but no change in functionality. The Raspberry Pi is about 8 feet from an Access Point that has a hardwired backhaul to the main router, so it shouldn’t be a signal issue.

Any thoughts? Is the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W too wimpy to run the camera? I previously tested it hosting a USB thumbdrive and I was able read and write to the thumbdrive without any issue, although, obviously, not as fast as a direct connection.

Thoughts, suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Steve

The amount of data transmitted by a camera is actually rather high - so I’m not super surprised your workaround has issues.

Our only recommendation is to connect directly to the camera, we’re unable to provide support for a workaround of this nature.

LightBurn 2.1 will have support for IP cameras, which should be a better solution in the long term, but 2.1 isn’t currently available to the public. Soon though, I hope.

I look forward to a wireless solution.
