LightBurn Crashed and will not restart

Hello,
I am running LB 1.17 and it crashed when I stopped a job. the program would not restart so I restarted my computer (windows 11) 3x. I uninstalled the software and DL & installed the newest version 2.02. Upon completing the install I start the program and it just hangs at the start up screen. before installing v2.02 i reinstalled 1.17 and the same issue. is this perhaps a corrupt windows file? Please help!! I have also updated windows, restarted machine. reinstalled LB and it still hangs up at the startup window. :frowning:

When you say “stopped a job”, did you press the “Stop” button in the Laser Window?
On a GRBL-based controller, this puts the laser in a idle/reset state. To continue using it, restarting the laser should be enough to reconnect.

Or are you saying LightBurn crashed (closed) here? When this happens, you should get a “LightBurn_Crash_Log.txt” file saved to your Desktop. Please look for such a file, and send it to us if available.

There’s a newer version, 2.0.03 now. Please install it from here.

My first guess is rather that a LightBurn prefs file has gone rogue. Please try this for me:

  • Open the Windows Explorer
  • Navigate to this location: C:\Users\[your-username]\AppData\Local\LightBurn
  • Delete both these files: prefs.ini and prefs.ini.old
  • Try launching LightBurn again.

If this does not help, hold down the Shift-Key on the keyboard while launching LightBurn. This resets to the default Window layout and can solve issues in some cases.

Let us know if any of these steps help, and which one did the trick.

Thanks for your help. After updating windows, uninstalling 1.17 and reinstalling 2.0.1 I was able to get it running again after a long wait at the start up screen. I’ve since upgraded to 2.0.03 and its still working properly. ty for getting back to me!

Hmm. Interesting. I’m guessing that the reinstalling part made it work again.

Thank you for the feedback!

BTW: You can also right-click the “Devices” button to reset the current device connection after you stopped a running job:
