We know it’s been a while since our last major release, and we want to take a moment to explain why.
Our next release, LightBurn 2.0, is built on a new development framework (Qt6). Using this new framework will allow us to implement more modern features — some coming in 2.0, and many more down the road. But making that change has also meant a lot of work, a lot of testing, and a lot more bugs to squash than usual.
At the same time, we’ve been working on MillMage, our upcoming software for CNC users. MillMage is our first leap into supporting new digital fabrication tools, and robust CNC support is a special challenge. We’re nearing the finish line, but it’s been an arduous journey.
Developing MillMage has also required us to rewrite many internal systems that are shared with LightBurn. We’re taking the extra time to make sure everything works as expected across both applications, and meets our high standards for stability, excellence, and — most importantly — safety.
We appreciate your ongoing support, and promise the result will be well worth the wait.
The official LightBurn 2.0 release is just around the corner. If you can’t wait to try out all the new features, you can download our latest Release Candidate here. For instructions on installing and using a Release Candidate, see here.
