Lightburn importing AI shapes as image

Hi,

Please excuse any errors in my request here, this is entirely baffling to me, as I’ve not had this happen until just this morning.

I use my laser multiple times a week, primarily to cut fabric.
Software: Adobe Illustrator CC
Lightburn Version: 1.7.08
Computer: M1 Macbook Pro w/ OSX Sonoma 14.7.5
Laser: Thunder Nova 63 w/ RDC-V8.07.69 controller (per lightburn specs when connected)

Background of this issue:
I do my pattern design entirely within Adobe Illustrator CC, shapes/files are generated to size there. I cut files 99% of the time. Imported shapes have always shown up as “line” mode.
Today, when I opened Lightburn, and copy/pasted shape from AI files I’ve used dozens of times before, it imported as an IMAGE, curves were jagged and not a vector file as shown before.

-My settings seem to have somehow been wiped out as well, including my library. That’s not a huge deal, as I have a notebook with materials settings so I can re-establish those.
-I “copy and paste” shapes directly into Lightburn since I started, I have had no issues until now.
-I have not adjusted anything in the settings, have not had any issues with laser, software or computer until now.
-Shapes generated directly in Lightburn show up as “line”, but any file(I have tried multiple different files) copy/pasted from Illustrator only show up as “image”.

Thank you for any help in rectifying this issue.

First screenshot shows shapes imported from Adobe Illustrator(as I’ve done dozens of times before with this file, 72dpi in both Illustrator and also in Lightburn)

Second screenshot shows shape generated directly in Lightburn

Third screenshot shows settings applied by Lightburn to file directly imported from Illustrator

Could you provide us with a sample .ai file that exhibits this issue, so we can take a look on our devices?

If you need the file uploaded to the cloud, I could do that as well. I’ve seen in other discussions that adding “.txt” to the end of the file name was requested, so I did that here.

SampleFile_DanielStone.ai.txt (330.6 KB)

Just to clarify as well, I am experiencing this with ANY file I atttempt to copy/paste into lightburn from Illustrator CC. The sample file I uploaded in my prior reply was made specifically for the same request, it’s a simply set of identical shapes, nothing in my “process” of file creation or settings in file setup/saving were changed from what I’ve been doing now for well over a year.

I unfortunately do not have CC available, but I do have Affinity Design.

Direct import from drag and drop into the window works (creates lines)
Import from File>Import works as well
Copying > Pasting from Affinity Designer works as well.

Could you show me the settings you have on the import/export tab under ‘Edit > Settings’?

Hi Colin,

I’m a bit confused by what you mean when you say “settings”. So I tried import, and that seemed to work now with multiple files. Any reason why copy(in Illustrator) and paste(in Lightburn) is importing it as an image, not a vector? Any possible way to remedy this that you could think of?

I suspect Windows is considering it an image file (Copy) instead of a vector file. To get a vector file, you likely need to save it as an SVG, then Import it into Lightburn.

Have same exact problem using Illustrator CC on Mac. For 2+ years could copy vector art out of Illustrator and paste it into latest version of Lightburn. Now only pastes in as an image. Converting to an SVG file and then importing that seems to work but also make set-up/design a lot slower.
