Lightburn moves away from the origin set for it - user origin

Hello,

We’ve been using lightburn for quite sometime. And now it will not start the job from the origin its set to start from in user origin mode. It will either move foreward or backward before starting and hit the rails too.

The last position shifts constantly on the screen it always shows coordinates outside of the workspace when we hit the set finish position.

Can anyone help
Thanks.

In console type
$#
Press enter
Check to see if you have any persistent offset

Also you did not clarify what machine you have, but is it homing normally?

I have entered the command

It’s a laser engraver I will attach a photo.

And no it does not home we have disabled the limit switches.

That is the laser module, not the laser engraver.

So if you disabled the homing, you are positioning the laser head at from left THEN powering on machine

And using current position?

Yes but we use User origin

You have a G54 offset
Type in console
G10 L2 P1 X0 Y0
Press enter
Then try again
$#
G54 line should be clear

If so then try again engrave

It is clear now.

Should I set origin and finish position before starting or should I just try to start it?

just try what you normally would

I tried it and it’s working again thanks.

Let me know if there’s anything else to be adjusted.

the fact you got a presistent G54 makes me think you have a firmware thats old and needs updating
As you did not clarify what machine you have i cant tell for certain

Off topic what is the difference between the Laser Module and a Laser engraver? We bought it from a local seller and we have always found it hard to name it so we usually image search it or something.

How can I find out? The firmware and machine

The laser engraver is the chassis
Frame + Motherboard combo

The laser module is the business end that actually lasers
They are interchangable and by just the laser module i cannot tell what your machine/motherboard is, and vice versa

type $i in console

But should be a branded machine?

Here is the result. Should i also send the controller will that help?

try engraving, maybe it was a hickup that will not repeat itself

Try just engrave and see if solved

Okay. Thank you.

The problem seems clear to me.

You don’t understand how the coordinate system works and various references to origin can be confusing and frustrating. Unless you can explain a good reason for this, I have to assume confusion and frustration logic.

This isn’t learned by osmosis, but it takes time and work to take a machine like this and understand how some parts of it are laid out. Maybe I should say, welcome aboard, we’ve all been in that boat.

Most of us have machines that home. This allows general operations without check list of how to set up the machine before power up…

Take the time to learn how this works and turn these switches back on along with get more enjoyment out of your machine. These issues will keep coming up, it’s faster, easier, cheaper to use them as intended…

Just MHO :grimacing:
