I often have a my laptop on before I fire up the laser as it is used for other functions; and when I do almost all the time I need to remember to go and change the com port settings.
In conjunction with my other post re a default camera being selected (not ) , I have gotten my self a tad confused and flusted b4 I remember to go and change the com port.
I did see a post about setting up a text file so that Lightburn would ignore certain ports; in the Pref’s folder. ie. PortExclude.txt
However I am not sure if it is in the right area or Context as the Laser is on Com4 and if it is off, then when Lightburn starts it still expects me to Choose and offers Com3 or Com5…
I have to close and restart Lightburn to see Com4…
Am I being too fussy or just have to many devices connected.
PS: Also need to remember power saving and that windows will power down the USB ports as pat of power saving, had that with the 3D printer and the TS2 laser.
Com ports is a Windows issue, it will dynamically assign numbers to com ports based on what is connected at the time, so if another device (USB) connects while laser is off it can “steal” the com port number that the laser last used.
I understand that, but the other ports are in use and if not I still always have to choose, and the TS2 is always on the same com port; well has been for the last 3 weeks while playing and setting things up and many changes to usb ports and cameras and other devices.
Always have to choose and the TS2 is always gets the same port regardless of what is connected.
Thus I have to always quit Lightburn when ready to work and re start and then REMEMBER to check to see that the Correct camera is active and the go to the Laser Tab and select the Correct Com port…
CuraLe and my other printing software never have this issue, regardless of what else I am doing or have on or off or connected.
It may also depend on wheather the devices are plugged into powered ports or not, they do some weird stuff in windows, I must test this one day when I get time, play with laser or debug windows…might be a while LOL
