A couple of days ago Lightburn started giving me a “File transfer failed” error on my Mac when I send a file to my laser.
My setup:
Mac mini with an m2 running Lightburn 1.7.1 but I also downgraded to 1.6.03 and it still happens.
I have a Windows 11 laptop that it runs from just fine as well as a Windows 11 Pro desktop that it runs from.
But the Mac is my daily driver that has all of my files and programs on it.
I have a MacBook Air that I can try if I really have to but I’d need to juggle my license around to get it on there.
Initially I thought it was a network error, so I replaced my mesh wifi router thinking it was an ethernet port issue (in hindsight I should’ve tested it with a laptop).
I’ve replaced the ruidia board since I have a working known good from my previous machine.
lastly I tried from Windows and that’s how I figured out that it works on the Windows machines just fine.
My hunch is it has something to do with the latest update 1.7.0.1 but I don’t understand how it is still not sending the file to my machine even when I uninstalled it and downgraded to 1.6.03.
I’ve been using my Windows Machine but would really like to get back to using my Mac. I found the files you mentioned by going to:
File → Preferences → Open Prefs Folder
Unfortunately it didn’t help. I still get the “No Device Found” on the bottom of the screen and when I try and either read the controller info or send file to my machine I get an error that it’s unable to reach the device.
I can ping the ip from the same machine no problem and I can work from my Windows Machine no problem.
I really wish there was a way to escalate this issue.
Edit: I also just updated to 1.7.03 hoping there was a fix in there, but no dice!
Are you connecting directly to the machine via a Thunderbolt port with USB adapter? Many Mac people have had success using a USB 2.0 only hub. Get the “dumbest” hub you can find, not a USB 3 hub.
Thanks for the response Thelmuth, no I’m connected via WiFi.
Technically it’s an Ethernet connection → mesh WiFi access point
But I can ping it from my terminal on my Mac and it works no problem on my windows machine so I’m doubtful it’s a physical connection issue.
When I go to settings and get controller info I also don’t get a connection so for some reason, to me, it looks like the software has lost the networking capability.
Sorry, I didn’t realize you were connecting via LAN. That is the preferred method in my opinion.
Is it possible that it’s an IP Address issue, some other device getting assigned the same IP Address? Did you assign it an IP Address outside the DHCP range of your router? Although, if it works with Windows, that shouldn’t be the issue, but maybe try a different IP Address for kicks and change the address to match in Lightburn Devices.
I’ll give it a shot tomorrow but tbh it doesn’t appear to be an IP conflict.
It pings from my Mac and it works on my Windows machine. It could be the OS is stopping Lightburn from communicating but then I would think other people would have the same issue.
The odd part is I’ve tried un/installing Lightburn, going back a few versions, deleting the Prefs, using the newer version of Lightburn, and even when this whole thing started I swapped my Mesh Access Point (without testing ping or from another device).
Does anyone know if there’s a more formal way of escalating this issue? I’m sure there are higher priorities but it would be pretty awesome if I could get some help.
I’ve recently found out that macOS 15 (Sequoia) ‘Local Network Privacy’ can block local network communications from LightBurn unless explicitly permitted in macOS > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
