Since years I am waiting for a decent usable and working node editor in Lightburn. Wonder if the day will ever come.
Whereas I like a lot of Lightburns functions, this part is a shear nightmare and simple put will NOT work!
I always have to switch over to Vectric VCarve to get the node editing of a vector done as Lightburn seems to be simply incapable to do it.
On Windows Ctrl + D,S, etc is NOT working - period! Thus wrong help/hint.
Hovering over with key pressed does something, but creates a copy, so you end up with multipe of the same vector all laying over each other.
So what’s wrong?
Facit:
After hours of trials and videos watched and help docus read, there is no way (at least for me) to get any vector easy, fast and in any intuitively edited.
Big shame and massive potential for improvement for you Lightburn developers!!!
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say but it sounds like you have a misunderstanding of the functions. There are no Ctrl keys used with the node editor except ctrl ~ as a shortcut key to select the tool. Every function is a single keystroke without Ctrl key.
Ctrl-D is the command to duplicate. Ctrl-s is the command to save a file. The node editor tool works perfectly fine as designed.
Going off like this does not present well for you.
You said, he said. He is right. I made the same error when first trying to use the Node Editor. If you are up to version 1.7.xx, you will find node editing and the Snip tool stunningly useful. I can do it and I did not have VCarve to practice on.
Thanks everyone for the clarification of using the D, S, I, L. etc keys Without the Ctrl key.
But the pop-up help, which is presented when hovering over the Node Editor is then still extremely misleading, saying use " Ctrl + D, S. I, etc…
Here is the text of the pop-up help I get:
Edit Nodes (Ctrl/# + )
S- Smooth Node or Line
L - Convert Curve to line
C- Convert Node to Corner
D - Delete Node or Line
I - Insert Node point
…
You are right, all features are performed by only pointing on the lines or points with the mouse and choosing the desired function (…S, L, C, D …),
Point over info is not correct. I’m sure it will be fixed pretty quickly.
If you look very closely at the tooltip you will see (Ctrl + ` ) it is the key above Tab. I mistakenely said ~ in my previous post, which is the shifted version of this key. I spent several weeks myself trying it with Ctrl because that keystroke is so tiny I didn’t see it.
If you look very carefully at the flyover, you’ll spot the reverse quote mark next to the closing parentheses that escapes nearly everybody at first glance:
Admittedly, it can be misinterpreted to suggest holding the Ctrl key down for the other letters, but it’s about as accurate as it can be within the confines of a flyover hint.
That screenshot comes from 1.7.01, but it’s been like that all along.
That is the shortcut key to select the node edit tool. If node edit is not selected use this key combination to select it, just like Ctrl + L will select the line tool or Ctrl + R will select the rectangle tool.
@thelmuth and @ednisley
I’ve experimented a bit, the problem with my keyboard is that the combination must be “cmd”+“shift”+“`”, it’s probably my non-English keyboard layout that’s to blame.
Thank you for your response.
Funny this comes up because I was just trying out 1.7.01 on Linux and was editing my Nakatomi Plaza design using the Node Editor. I don’t use a Mac and my first try at keyboarding the editor was to hit Ctl+WindowKey+`. For some reason I saw the / indicating combination and didn’t understood that Mac/Apple symbol since I’m more familiar with ISO keyboards having skipped using Windows when betas of NT 3.1 were being pushed.
Still saddened this is the last version for Linux.
100% in agreement! The most unintuitive piece of code written in this SW. Even the beta version of Cambam has much better node editing/management routines than LB. V17 doesn’t even address or make node editing any better other than cut/cut line. Perhaps LB folks can take advantage of some coders from Cambam. Please do. Thanks.
I absolutely do not recognize your position on the cad options in LightBurn. With a little practice it is no problem to construct advanced items in LB, I use it for professional tasks because I can achieve what I want with the existing functions.
I’m surprised you use LightBurn and not Cambam when it’s so much better.
Based on what you’ve written thus far it’s hard to glean any more than that you think node editing doesn’t work well. However, it’s unclear what specifically you don’t think works well.
Can you perhaps highlight a specific thing you’re attempting to do but having trouble with? Specifically, what are you doing, what do you expect to happen, but what’s happening instead?
Hovering over and hitting a key seems pretty intuitive. Even I was able to grasp the concept. Thou I do wish I could just manipulate nodes with my mind, but I know of no software yet that can do that.
Having said that there are several issues that could be addressed but they are more to do with being able to see and join nodes better.
