Lightburn not cutting the correct shape

I copy/paste my paths from illustrator, and they usually work great, but today Im experiencing some cut paths that don’t match what I see on the screen. I can preview the cut animationm in Lightburn and it looks OK, but the actual cut is incorrect.

The preview in Lightburn looks correct, but the preview on the laser matches the cut.

Make sure your controller doesn’t have too many files stored in it. Ruida controllers do strange things when their memory gets full. You can delete them quickly through the files window in Lightburn.

If that’s not the issue, I don’t have any other ideas, maybe someone else does.

Odd intermittent failures with a Ruida controller seem to come from USB communication problems, particularly with Macs.

Using Ethernet generally works much better:

Kind of reminds me of a hacked version of Lightburn :scream:

As the saying goes, “Never ascribe to malice what can be laid at the feet of USB jank”.

Maybe I just need to switch to Ethernet… I am using a 50 ft USB cable with an amplifier module…

I rest my case.

I have a bunch of CAT 5E, will that work or do I need CAT 6?

Yes, Cat 5 is rated as 10/100MHZ Ethernet, same as the Ruida.

OK, so I made an ethernet connection to the Ruida, went to Lightburn and added Ruida / ethernet as a new device, found my Macbook IP address and subnet mask info. Input this into Ruida at the laser controller, used one number higher for the ip address (same as computer but added one number higher, changed it from 78 to 79). I input the IP address when I added the new device to the laser. But Im unable to read the machine settings or cut, dont have a open comm channel. Thoughts?

Is the Mac OS seeing the device?

The Ruida has a static IP, so it doesn’t use a router to get it’s address. The router needs to know that the Ruida Mac address is associated with that IP address.

Using one digit up might be an issue as most routers, and you Mac usually get their IP from the router. Might be different next time the device asks for an IP, such as a re-boot, or the routers IP lease expires.

I’m not a Mac person, I’m sure there is some way to see if the laser appears in the lan list of devices, @thelmuth might help.

Are you connected directly between the Macbook and Laser or going through your LAN? I have only ever connected through the LAN.

I just ran a test connecting directly. To verify, please go to Settings>Network and click on your ethernet adapter. It should look something like this. It will have a different address than your WiFi Adapter. This is the IP you need tou use in the Ruida, changing the last number to something different. One off is fine. Also be sure to change the gateway in Ruida to match the Router in Settings.

Thanks for bailing me out … don’t even know where to tell him to look :+1:

I have a Mac, I need to break it out and start using it. That would allow me to move off of 1.4.04 that I’m currently using…

I only recently started using Macs (last 2 years or so).

I think going through the LAN is better. Just need to assign an IP address that’s outside the DHCP range of your router. That way it won’t asssign that address to another device causing issues. But I know that’s not always an option if you don’t have a switch within reach of the laser.

Interesting observation is when I connected directly with my Macbook, my WiFi internet connection stopped working. I didn’t bother trying to troubleshoot since this was only for a conection test. I reset my Ruida back to connect via LAN and everything’s happy.

It’s very easy to just right click the device and assign an IP based on the devices Mac address.

I’ve generally done it this way..
