Hi, I am looking at upgrading from my diode laser to the omtech 55 watt polar. Does lightburn overide any settings input into the control panel on the machine
No, you just create all the profiles you need for the different laser and can easily switch afterwards between them.
Are you trying to decide between the lite version and the one with the control panel?
Try to get one with an HMI control panel if you can with Ruida, as it’s very useful to have for all sorts of reasons see (https://youtu.be/owkCtAznvDQ?si=jCMSu1qLqdWCDDlg).
Maybe I misrepresented the question, On my diode laser i use lightburn to position the laser head to frame the job. If I use the move buttons on the omtech will the override the lightburn positioning.
I think it’s a license question.
You can use either the arrows on the control panel or the arrows in the move window.
Here’s another video on how to put a Ruida Console on a Polar.
Same game, at least he mounts this one.
The controller is between you and the lasers working parts which it controls. The console will override some controls, such as head movement, but it maintains it’s location.
I don’ thing we are clear about what you mean by over ridding Lightburn.
Nicholasl thanks for your post.
I have used a diode laser controlled solely from lightburn for about 8 years and position the material on the bed using a jig for multiple pieces. using lightburn I can position the art so that it is in the correct position.
I have viewed the video on using a rudia controller and I think its for the 50 watt that does not have a control panel. (am I correct) The 55 watt machine has a control panel that i can see and i wonder if this replaces the extra control in the video.. So if i can get a 55 watt machine will i only need the contrpol panel for when i use the laser offline and in other circumstances just use lightburn to control the job.
Sorry if this is confusing but its hard to get any help here in australia especially in Newcastle
Thanks
From my understanding, the newer polar, called the polar plus has a control panel of some sort. The videos I’ve seen don’t really tell me if the console actually displays error messages.
One I watched showed him open a door and it stops but never mentions if the console display actually shows an error message.
IMHO, the main reason for having a screen is to get any kind of error message. However, mine is about wasted from me pushing so many buttons all the time.
I would assume and hope it does everything a normal console does such as it’d show errors, but I don’t know that.
If you use jigs a lot to position the material then I’m guessing that you mostly use the ‘Absolute Coords’ positioning mode?
You will still be able to use this mode in the same way on the new machine, but one advantage the new machine will have over your diode machine (that you may want to consider taking advantage of) is that the ‘User Origin’ mode works a lot better - being able to jog and use the ‘Origin’ and ‘Frame’, and ‘Start’ buttons right at the machine is really useful.
Thanks for all who replied to my post. I deceided to go with the polar 350 as Im used to doing things manually and I dont need some of the extra enhancements on the 55 watt.
I will no doubt have some more questions after delivery and appreciate any advice. Thanks again
