Lightburn Software installation issue - "This app can't run on your PC"

I am new to Lightburn. Recently bought a Longer Ray5 laser and want to use Lightburn, so downloaded the trial, but cannot get it installed. I have upgraded to Windows 11 Pro as I had the Home version. I checked, I am not running in S-Mode either.

When running the installation file it gives me this error:

I tried running it as an administrator, then it gives me this error:

I have read that the Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable could be the issue. So I uninstalled all and reinstalled the one’s that were on the lightburn form as suggestions.

I watched a video about possible problems of why it could say “This app can’t run on your PC”, I have right clicked and gone to properties and checked compatibility, I have changed to developer mode, have switched off “reputation-based protection”.

I just don’t know what try anymore. Someone please help. Would really like to get started.

To what folder have you downloaded the installer? The location in your second screenshot is highly unusual.

Can you locate the file in Explorer and take a screenshot showing the full path to the file?

Please do check, if you downloaded the correct file … there is no extra trial version of lightburn ,
https://release.lightburnsoftware.com/LightBurn/Release/LightBurn-v1.7.08/LightBurn-v1.7.08.exe

Please do have a lock in your windows settings (windows+I)
You should allow apps not only from the microsoft store

Hi there

This is the file path. “C:\Users\andri\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts\LightBurn-v1.7.08.exe”

I tried saving it to the “Program Files” but then it tells me to I don’t have permission do that. I have full administrator rights and have managed to download an install all my other softwares. I can manage to copy it into the “Program Files” location though. “C:\Program Files\LightBurn-v1.7.08.exe”. But when I run it, gives the same error screen.

Funny thing is… I managed to get an older version and that installed perfectly. It is version 1.3.00 though. I am planning on buying the version after the trial expires, so that concerns me, what’s going to happen when I have to upgrade.

Hi there

I do have the correct version downloaded it from the Lightburn site “C:\Program Files\LightBurn-v1.7.08.exe”

Regarding where to download apps from, under Applications, this is what it shows me

Where are you seeing this? Instead of cropping screenshots, can you attach full screenshots of your display? I suspect critical context is being removed.

Note that you should not attempt to manually move files to Program Files. The installer should accomplish that for you.

I saw this in your earlier screenshot. It’s not clear to me how it got there.

What are you using to download the installer? Can you redownload, then take a full screenshot of Explorer showing the download file?

If you can take a screen capture or video of you attempting to download then install LightBurn that would be the most instructive.

Hi there

I didn’t have a screen recorder, so downloaded a free one, so it has a watermark, but here’s the link to the google folder:

This is step by step of what I did.

Using Google Chrome and have Windows 11 Pro on my laptop

I managed to install version 1.3.00 just fine with no issues. I am using that now, but worried that when the trial period has run out and I buy the software and insert the key it will cause problems. It has been indicating that there’s a newer version and if I want to upgrade, I’ve been declining so far.

For some reason the top and bottom of your screen is cut-off and I can’t seen all the details of the installation.

However, can you try these steps:

  1. Go to Settings->About and take a screenshot
  2. Instead of clicking on “This PC” for download location, click on the “Download” folder. Then try installing from there. Does that change anything?

The update process is really no different than the file getting downloaded by your browser and reinstalling. You can safely ignore for the moment.

Also, almost forgot to mention but Windows 11 includes a built-in screen recording feature in the Snipping Tool or Xbox Game Bar.

Hi there

Here’s the screenshot.

Thanks for tip on screen recording.

Let me try the download folder, will let you know.

Hi

Saved it to the download folder and tried installing gives me the same red warning block.

Can you try running as Admin from the Download folder? Capture the screenshot of any resulting error message.

Hi there

Here’s the link to “running it as administrator”

It looks like to me you have a system corruption of some kind. This isn’t simply a permission issue or similar.

Try running this in a CMD prompt with Admin privileges:
sfc /scannow

If that doesn’t work, I suggest attempting to do an image recovery. Check here for details:

If you these commands identify issues and are able to repair the system then try rerunning the installer.

I ran it in CMD and this is what came up

Trying the installation again

Any progress after this?

Hi, no, no progress, also didn’t work, don’t know what to try anymore. Thinking I’m going to have to get a IT person to look at the problem. If I buy a license, can I activate the 1.3.00 version? Or must I upgrade to the new version

The license will work for any version released prior to or for 1 year after purchase. Renewal will extend that period of update availability but note that you can use in perpetuity any version that you are eligible to receive.

Thank you for the feedback. I’ll have to get someone to look at my system first then. Before I look at upgrading the version.
