Light burn will not find my laser. It’s plugged in via usb and the computer rings when you plug it in or turn it on and off. K 40 whisperer identifies it and with Inkscape I am able to use the laser. What can I do to get the Lightburn program to sync up with the laser? My computer uses windows 8
If K40 Whisperer can control the laser that means it won’t work with LightBurn.
You likely have an M2 Nano board in the laser today which K40 Whisperer can drive. LightBurn does not support that board, at least not directly.
There is a program called Meerk40t that can serve as an intermediary between LightBurn and the M2 Nano but I haven’t seen much on how robust that is.
Normally people wanting to use LightBurn on your type of laser would do a board swap with a controller that is supported by LightBurn.
Oh that’s terrible news. Thank you for the reply. Do you recommend any user friendly programs for the ometech 40w co2 laser ? I bought it specifically because they said Lightburn was user friendly. Ugh.
Is this K40 and the OMTech one and the same?
K40 whisperer is a program ometech is the brand of the laser
K40 Whisperer and Meerk40t are generally the most popular programs used to control those lasers.
I’d suggest trying both to see what you like. Meek40t is more flexible but can also be more complex.
You could try running Meerk40t as a intermediary to allow you to control the laser from LightBurn. You could do it during a LightBurn trial period to see how well it works controlling your laser. Normally I’d suggest getting a feel for the laser first to see how it works and behaves, though, so you’re not dealing with too many variables at one time.
