I have an OMTech K40+. I can get the laser to frame and start, but doesn’t actually engrave anything? What have I done wrong? It was a used machine that I saw work before I purchased. I don’t have the firing tool so the setting is where it was left that day.
If it’s moving across the design, then it’s likely a matter of either too much speed or not enough power. A screenshot of the LightBurn window, with the Cuts / Layers sub-window visible will help us see what you see.
In very round numbers, it should be capable of marking cardboard at 100 mm/s and 20% of the maximum power. If you have LightBurn set to inch/sec speeds, that’s 4 inch/s.
Practice on cardboard until you’re confident you can make it do what you want.
If you mean the Fire button in the Move window, you must enable that in the Device Settings:
Device Settings: Basic Settings - LightBurn Documentation.
However, that function may not be useful for your CO₂ laser, because the beam is invisible: you’ll only know it fires when the material under the nozzle starts smoking.
If that’s not what you mean (or if I recall incorrectly), more detail will help us see what you see.
Seeing the rest of the LightBurn window with your design will help.
A simple test: draw a 100 mm square on that Line layer and run it. What happens?
Set the layer to Fill and run the square again. What happens?
It was my power…it wasn’t near high enough. I have it working now. Thank you so much for replying and your help.
