Hello, I think I am finally getting this laser engraving/cutting stuff down pretty good, and am glad I bought the Lightburn software to make everything look good!
One problem I am still having is line up. Some projects I do are with type. I am engraving award medals, and the type has to fit perfectly in a 1 1/4" round circle. I do use the “frame” feature with lightburn, but when I put the piece I am engraving down, it is still off.
How can I line up the piece so the type engraves perfectly in the space I want it to be?
Thanks, Dan
Come up with a small example so it’s easier to help you.
Surround your design with a circle the same size as the medal in Lightburn and make this the only layer that is output to the laser. Tape down a piece of scrap material and cut the circle out - this then forms a placeholder to drop the medal in to. Remove the circle from the design, and output the rest of it to the laser and it should align perfectly. I do the same with engraving dog collar tags.
Thanks Mark,
I do the same thing, sort of. I make some round blanks out of 3mm wood, then postion the MEDAL and blank wood under the laser. It might take a couple of wood blanks, but after it is where I want it, I trace the outline of the MEDAL that I’m engraving with a magic marker on my stainless steel base and start engraging. I have about 30 or so I do every month for the Boy Scouts.
Your idea should work a lot better!
Thanks again,
Dan
