Line does not select

If I draw a circle, rectangle, or polygon when I click on the select arrow the object is selected. But if I draw a line and then click select it is not selected. I then have to manually select the line. Why?

Interesting question.
My guess is that shapes are finished as soon as you release the mouse.
While you have to terminate the line drawing process explicitly (Esc or right click), it is slightly different.
I don’t know if that’s a “bug”, limitation or by design…

when you right click after drawing a line would the line not be finished?

Detailed description of what I do:
click the Line icon
left click (push and release) the mouse button
move the mouse to where you want the line to end
left click (push and release) the left mouse button
immediately right click
move the mouse and click on the select arrow.

This sequence is the one that works for me.

I think this choice was likely made because you can make more than one shape at a time while using the Draw Lines tool. If it was to auto-select would it select the very last thing you made, or everything you made while you had the tool active? This ambiguity was likely the reason is selects neither. But I would be interested to hear which you believe it should select, perhaps there is an intuitive consensus.

Billie, your argument can be applied to other tools as well: I can trace several rectangles then click on the select tool, it will select the latest drawn.

There is another way to quickly get to selection mode without having to click on the arrow button, or press the esc key.

And that is to map a long press of the right mouse button to the Esc key.

One way you can do this is to use XMBC (X-Mouse Button Control), a Freeware Windows app by Phillip Gibbons.

It’s from a third party so you are installing it at your own risk, I can only say that it did not raise any hackles with my virus scanner and seems to work well so far for me, I’m just experimenting with it.

I chose to setup a ‘LightBurn’ profile in XMBC so the custom remapping is only active when I’m using LightBurn. Do this by running LightBurn in the background, and then use the ‘Add’ button and select lightburn.exe from the list of running processes.

The pic below shows the detail of the (held) Right Button remap which I made to simulate the pressing of Esc twice so it could also be used to back right out of the text tool quickly:

I would like and expect the line option to function Exactly like the rectangle, circle, and polygon options to function. On my LightBurn 1.5.xx rectangle, circle, and polygon when you hit escape or click on the arrow the Last object is selected.

You’re right, my bad.
