Lines burning too thin

I have a 410x850 waste board grid created in LightBurn. Settings for burn are 1500 mm/mn speed at 100% power. I’m getting this result on any wood–Lines are extremely thin and light, regardless of power setting. Focus is set as instructed. X7 pro…MDF and Luan wood and Pine not pictured…Can I make the lines a bit more thicker/darker? Thanks.

You should think of the lines of a laser as being infinitely thin. In practice, it’s the thickness of the dot size produced by your particular laser/lens combination.

You can increase the intensity of the burn by reducing speed or increasing power. However, not all materials behave the same way. Some materials will ablate without a correlated increase in burn darkness.

A couple of methods for increasing the line width:

  1. If you only need to increase slightly, dry defocusing your laser by slightly increasing the focal distance. Doing so will serve to increase the dot size and also decrease light density. You may need to further decrease speed to compensate but this should result in both a darker line and wider line
  2. If you need a much wider line then you will need to convert the discrete lines into filled line shaped rectangles that have the width of the line that you desire. You will then use a Fill operation in the cut layer setting.

I was also encouraged in another forum to increase my S value up to 1000, which I did. I saw some results, and like you have suggested, the thin line is a good thing. I just thought I needed a more prominent line, which I did not. So I settled on raising my S value to 1000, 1500 mm, and 75% power. It was still a thin line, but turned out looking good for the purpose I need it. Thanks.
