I´m new at this laser thing. Hope you can help me improve my results.
I’m getting this results as shown in the pic below.
The start of every line doesnt match the next passes…
And the circle isnt as perfect as it should be…
Any hint?
You’re losing steps somewhere:
- check belts for proper tension. They could be slipping. They should be taught with no slack.
- the pinion gears may not be properly secured to the stepper shaft. If there is any play in the pinion gear resecure the grub screws where one is against the flat portion of the shaft
- it could be that your speed settings are too high. Do you hear a buzzing/straining noise from your stepper motors? If so that’s an indication of the motors skipping. What speed are you set for in this design?

A quite common case with Sculpfun lasers is that the pulleys (small gears directly on the motors’ axis) are not tight. Check by tightening the small grub screws.

It was the pulleys! One was completely loose.
