Live view camera?

Just a question… is there a way to, or a future update, that will allow the camera’s to show a live view in the workspace?

No way to do this currently.

It may not be straightforward to implement without affecting normal workspace performance, since each video frame would require all its pixels to be remapped to correct for lens & perspective distortion.

I know that this is not what you are asking for, but as an alternative workaround you can maximize your camera window over your entire work area in LB, this gives you a live view of what is happening in the laser machine. (I have not tested it in the latest LB version, only up to 2.0)

But as Nicholas says, it’s a bit of a mixed experience when it comes to video quality.

Yet another “This is not what You’re asking for”, aplogies for that in advance.

It would be a very nice feature indeed if that was possible, but…

Even if it would work, there’s a slim (to none) chance that You’d see anything worthwile with a regular camera when the laser is firing.
Other than that the laser is actually firing and the head and the gantry is moving, and that’s exactly what I among countless others have used a separate USB camera for.

The headmounted camera (for precision positioning) is still in the works :wink: .
As is the separate camera with a repurposed older tablet/pad for observation inside the enclosure.
Other things in life is keeping me way too busy to focus on those adventures :slight_smile: .

Any laser will instantly overload the camera image sensor, and to make the matters worse, the optics are not well suited for the very narrow wavelength and high energy peak of a laser + the reflections, so that will have to be compensated with a optical filter whenever even a semi-decent video quality is required.

If only one camera is to be used, that filter would have to be removed for the regular LB camera functions to resume, so the way I see it, a separate camera is the only feasible way to go.

May I ask: When was the last time you tried the head mounted camera?
Everything is always in the works :wink: But the head mounted camera features received a lot of love recently. If you get to try it, I’d be eager to hear your feedback.

Didn’t get to try it, that was also one of those things that have been delayed indefinitely.
Mainly because the intended application -etching microscope reticles/graticules- was resolved in a different way.

But I will try it at some point, will probably take a while though.

Hi, this may not be exactly what you were inquiring about, but I have 2 laser setups, a fiber laser and a diode laser which i have 2 cameras for each. First cameras are Lightburn compatible and work in Lightburn and the second cameras are ip cameras viewed thru web browsers; ie brand Milton “Beaglecam” versions V1. And they do see both individual frequencies of the beams showing location of the laser point as well as the burning and path with no damage to the cameras. It does work better if you have a separate monitor however a single monitor does work. And the Beagle cameras record in normal or timelapse as well as screen shots.
