Logo Placement on Cups

Happy New Year to all first off !

Got my powder coated cups in this week. Haven’t burned one yet. Still trying to decide where to put the logo’s

I’m sure its more of a personal taste thing, but where do most folks place it. 180 degrees opposite of the handle? If holding the cup in your right hand, would you place it out in front of that right hand?

What I’m not sure about is where within light burn do I place the logo, or does it matter, as long as it’s in the working area for that lens? It should be similar to my tumblers I figure. Maybe I’m over thinking it. I have done a measurement yet on the size of the cups for my Steps per Rotation config either. This will be the 2nd time I’ve had to figure that out. All I’ve done with my laser with drinkware are my standard 20oz tumblers.

Rigging up a stop…

My cup is 87.7 in diameter. Pretty much like my tumblers that I have and use … I don’t think I’ll have to setup anything new on the rotary settings.

I thought I would try some cups this year.

Why not try printing to a sticker or piece of paper that would allow you to relocate on the cup at various positions. This way you could try it out before committing to a burn.

Looking at my coffee cups, it seems the most common is to have the art facing away from me while the handle is in my right hand. They varied from somewere between 90-ish to 120-ish degrees from the handle.

Looking at novelty mugs online, it seems “away from drinker” is most common, however it was both left-hand and right-hand.

I’d say it depends on the intent. You want the drinker to see the art or show off the art? Spirit lifting humor on a a lonely sunday morning or office space advertising?

I don’t think there’s a wrong answer.

That’s how I do mine. Center of the artwork opposite handle…

It’s a personal thing.

I use wide black masking tape on the mug and low poer to check placement before doing the job.

I’ve always look at it this way. If you have a logo on a mug, you would obviously want it facing away from you so that everyone else can see it. If you’re advertising a business, etc. you want everyone else to see it, not you. You can look at the design on the mug anytime you want, so face it so everyone else can see it too.

Hello good people… Hope all is well in your world today.

Yeah, I think I’m going to start off with having the logo’s burned on the opposing side of the right handed user.

I have one wrapped up twice in painters tape to give it a test run. I drained my CO2 tube a week ago because I don’t heat the shop.

When I get some warmer temps this week, I’ll try it on the fiber and see how it goes.

Thanks for your input.

I use this coolant from OMTech… gone through some freezing temperatures with no issues.

Then you can stop whining

Hello there Mista J. Just curious. I’m assuming you keep your chiller running to circulate the AF? I’d have to check with the mfg of my chiller as well to see if they have any issues with AF being used instead of Distilled water. If I was a production house, I probably would be using that or keeping my shed heated above freezing. I’m in the mid-south, but this big artic blast really threw us in the deep freeze…

It’s NOT antifreeze in the normal way we think about it, which is automotive use.

You should not use automotive antifreeze as it has a high dielectric constant. This has been known to cause the anode voltage to get into the coolant and make anything that touches the coolant to be at the anode voltage. :zap: :exploding_head:

Technically what causes the issue is the additives to make it better for automotive engines…

So don’t refer to it as AF, call it a laser coolant. This is what it is and it’s specifically designed for that task.

Ahhhh, I stand corrected. Laser Coolant. I got cha. No worries. Yeah, I’ve read a bit about it over the past year or so. Especially when I let my tube freeze up last winter. That’s why I opted to drain it via blowing through the rubber hoses and took my chiller and drained it, and put it in the house. Going to get it all back up and running this week.
