My laser seems to be having trouble cutting 3MM basswood even when laser power is turned up and speed is turned down. Is there something I am missing?
In order to help, some information is missing.
What parameters do you use for power and speed, please with the units of measurement, has the machine worked before?, have you checked/cleaned your laser lens?, have you tested your focus setting with a ramp test or similar?..
Without this information, it’s like telling the doctor that it hurts ![]()
Yeah the machine has cut this material fine in the past. I had it at 300mm/100%power and it still didn’t cut all the way through the material.
I have not checked the cleanliness of the lens. I don’t have the focus ramp I have just been using the focusing lever that’s built into the laser module.
I assume you mean 300mm/min… that should be ok.
If you have never done a ramp test it might be interesting for you to see the results and compare your built-in distance system. But if you have been able to cut through basswood before and you don’t have optical problems, it could be possible that your laser is not ok anymore.
On a chance, did you check the Device Settings window to make sure mm/m is selected? I say this because you did not put any units after your 300 speed.
Yeah it was set to mm/m. I ended up deleting the devices in lightburn. I then manually added my machine back to the list and it started working normally. Thank you.
That is why the units of measurement are so important and must never be forgotten when specifying values. (This also applies to a very high degree within electricity and electronics.)
When you have re-established your values of your laser so that it fits perfectly, I would recommend “exporting a Bundle” with all the relevant data, it works almost automatically, try it.
(Under normal circumstances, LB makes automatic backups of your settings and can/should always be able to be restored, Bundles are just an additional (transport) option.)
