Hello, I built a plasma kit for my Ray5 and my friends want me to make them one too. They seem to think it would be a pretty desirable kit but I’m not sure about that.
Would anyone be interested in purchasing a plasm kit?
If so, PM me. Not sure about using the site for selling things so I won’t add details here.
When I worked in a machine shop, the plasma cutter was the most dangerous thing in the shop. Plasma vaporizes metals into their basic elements, including cadmium, nickel, and chromium. None of these are okay to inhale.
I highly doubt it was the most dangerous machine in any shop but you also took the appropriate precautions when using it, right??
Doesn’t that go with using any machinery?
Common sense.
So I guess I’m not really sure what you posted that for.
Isn’t a ray5 a small machine? Plasmas are usually for rather big projects.
Do you have a picture?
It is small, 15"x15", but it’s so easy to use and can be brought out to jobsites and cut parts when needed. Very light weight and easy to store.
I don’t have pics but I have this video:
The only problem in the video is the table. I used 1/2" square bars as the bed and when the plasma would hit the start of a bar it would no longer pierce through You can see all the slag on the biggest part for example.
I changed them out with 1/8" flat stock and didn’t have that problem anymore.
It was in our machine shop, 10 acres under one roof. We cut Inconel, Hastelloy, and various grades of stainless steel. I was Chief Shop Steward for a year and Safety Committeeman for 5 years, so I had to be educated on safety and OSHA regulations. So I still say safety should be observed.
That said, I am impressed with your ingenuity. That is a really neat plasma torch setup. The video showed it quite well. I am sure others will be asking for your help setting theirs up. It kind of makes my 40w laser look tame!
Thanks for sharing.
