Related to my posts above about FreeCAD. I’ve just discovered an add-in called LCInterlocking for making laser cut boxes. It can allow for kerf width but it unfortunately doesn’t seem to support different kerf widths for X & Y. You might be able to compensate for the non-uniformity by adjusting the box dimensions but I haven’t thought too deeply about it or tried it out, Anyway, some folks will hopefully find it useful.

Ah yes, I’d forgotten about SolidEdge! That was the first parametric CAD I had experience of way back in the late '90s. Thanks for the reminder
Boxes.py works for me with some manual adjustment.
I move as many joining faces together as possible, which almost halves the cut time and guarantees a good fit.
