Hi everyone
I’m looking to buy a new laser for cutting and engraving faster
Mostly I use 3mm or 6mm plywood 12 by 24 inch
I was looking at the Neje E80 or Lasertree K1 Max 60W Laser Engraver
Late me know if you have any recommendations or advice
Looking only for diode laser
Thank you
I did lots of research thought, and looked at my experiences so far… I built my laser and printed parts for it in about 2012-2014 This is my 6 or 8th laser I have now. I decided on the IKIER K1 Pro max 24/48 and am getting quite comfortable with it. I have been testing on stainless and getting great colors, on stone I accidently melted through a square on it when I was doing a shading test. I have been dialing it in on some glass etchings currently. Tomorrow I am going to do some brick etching. Some simple cuts it did fantastic on and am sure it will do great on some thicker material.
I love it and was able to get it for $720 so that was one of the things that swayed me.
The only things I don’t like is the fan on the laser head is loud, the compressor is louder than my others and the touchscreen display have some neat features but is missing the simplest which is simple axis control for movements. but it has so many nice features, auto focus, alignment crosshairs, the 24/48 switch, super well-constructed, comes in 90% assembled. It is great.
I am currently building a 30"X30" Lexan enclosure with powered lid and carbon filtration to quiet it down some and will probably mount the compressor in there or more distant or even a sound box.
Compressor in the smoke zone (box) means you will be pumping smoke into the air assist. Air assist benefit is keeping the lens clean. Won’t happen here.
Please share where. Everything I find is $1K+, even Alibaba.
amazon warehouse and it was the only one.
the draw would be piped in, or I will mount it with the intake gasketed to the outside
That would be best, but here in Florida, the heat and humidity would create problems.
yeah it would unless it was in an ac room. i am at 7000 above sea level on the eastern slope of the rockies so mostly 20% humidity and around 70-80’s in the summer
Denver? Been there. Fresh air makeup would be what I would do there. Until it snowed.
My setup is an A/C climate. Luckily I did not have room in the garage and had to adopt a bedroom.
No I’m In northern NM less than an hr to CO the room it is in is 2000 square feet with 12.5’ ceilings
Still looking
What do you think about the tyvok spider s1 laser
Is a laser and cnc work with Lightburn
Hi Broly
Is the S1 the 8ft x 4ft…still on kickstarter.
I was going to put my name in the hat for that one but decided to wait.
I’m thinking it might be better to see how it runs when in full production…incase it needs debugging and such.
I spoke to Tyvok and they keep in touch but I bought the snapmaker Ray to learn a bit before doing anything else.
Have you got a short-list of maybes, after that you can just dial in further on cost, stability, quality regarding various aspects of each, and figure out whats really important to you.
I chose to go with build and not having to add or swap parts to use other module…I got a 2wIR & a 20w, the 40w/20w module is a big block at 1.26kg…maybe later.
Actual working area also factors in, mine is 600x400 but Im building in a feedthrough with plenty of fan power to get the module fouling smoke and sticky stuff out.
Remember, the bigger the power module the bigger the Kerf as well as a gain in speed…depends what you want to work on.
I must say though that I saw a comparative test between a 2wIR 1064 and a 40w diode and was surprised how well the 40w performed…speaking as a complete beginner in lasering terms!
I have the 48/24 watt Ikier and a mr. carve 1064nm 2 watt and they are different beasts, different colors on materials and even had a river rock that the IR couldn’t touch. The 48 is a great laser and has taken everything I have thrown at it so far. I have made some changes on certain materials from the materials Library I found i need to do some material tests on stainless to see the power and speeds it produces certain colors at full power it does a goldish on stainless.
